Today I’m writing from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. A sobering space dedicated to the important work of remembering.
Remembering is both hard and good (as many things are). It’s both good and hard to remember. It can be particularly hard to remember when the memories are bad. When memory recalls pain and forgiveness seems impossible (or even undesirable)for you. Grieving is part of the work of this, mourning what was lost in terms of resolution, or opportunities for justice.
Remembering can also be good, recalling your loved one when they were at their best, during happy times and spaces of intimacy. Grieving then can mean, mourning the loss of opportunity to make more good memories. With them.
It’s complicated (as they say).
Peace and grace to you on your way today.
I’m thinking of you.
